Creating Data Entry Forms

Each BarTender document has a default data entry form, which you can access by clicking the Form tab at the bottom of the design area. To enable this form so that it appears at print time, create at least one control or object on the form. Each document supports any number of data entry forms.

The following procedure uses the default form to create a data entry form that has a text input box control. Use this example to learn how to add the control to the form and then review the results by using the print preview feature.

  1. In Template Design view, add a new text object to your template.

  2. Click the Form tab at the bottom of the design area to switch to Data Entry Form view. Alternatively, click Data Entry Form on the View menu.

  3. On the Create menu, click Data Entry Control, and then Text Input Box. Alternatively, click the icon on the object toolbar, and then click Text Input Box.

  4. Click the location on the data entry form where you want to place the text input box control.

  5. In the Data Sources pane of the Toolbox, expand the Template Object Data Sources node.

  6. Locate the text object that you created on the template, and then expand its node.

  7. Drag the data source for that template object to the text input box on the data entry form. This operation links the data source to the control.

  8. Click on the main toolbar to open the Print Preview view.

  9. When your data entry form opens, enter sample text into the text input box control, and then click Preview to view your items as they would appear when they are printed.

  10. On the print preview toolbar, click Close to return to Data Entry Form view.

The data entry form supports many types of controls for data entry, and each can be configured to meet your data entry requirements. For more information about the available controls, refer to Creating Controls and Objects.
