The UPC-E is made up of eight digits. The first digit is either a zero or a one, the next six digits are your data, and the last digit is the . The Number System option enables you to specify whether you want the first character to be a zero or a one.
Specifying the Right Number of Characters
Typically, you supply the six middle characters of a UPC-E , and BarTender automatically adds the number system digit to the beginning, computes the check digit, and then adds the check digit to the end. If you supply more than six characters, BarTender might delete the extra characters, and if you supply fewer than six, BarTender will add enough trailing zeros to bring the total number of data characters up to six.
