GS1 Digital Link

When you use a GS1 QR Code or GS1 DataMatrix symbol, you can add a GS1 Digital Link URI that represents GS1 identification keys both in a Web URI and in the barcode symbol. By using the GS1 Digital Link option, your symbol can support both product identification and a link to online material that comply with the GS1 standard.

A Web URI can act as a globally unambiguous name for an item and simultaneously provide a way to retrieve information from the web about the item. A Web URI includes the http:// or https:// prefix, a hostname (such as www.example.com), and path information. The URI can also be extended to include a query string (which enables key/value pairs to be sent to a web resource) and an optional fragment identifier (which is typically used to provide a link to a subsection of a web resource).

A sample Web URI is as follows:

https://example.com/01/614141123452

The URI has a flexible syntax that allows for different expressions of the components. For example, in this URI, "01" is the identifier for a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), and "gtin" can be substituted for "01" in the URI, as follows:

https://example.com/gtin/614141123452

The following options are available when the GS1 Digital Link check box is selected:

When you use the GS1 Digital Link option, you can add a Clock data source to the barcode properties, but the Use Printer's Clock option on the Data Source tab of the Data Sources property page is not supported.

For more information about the GS1 Digital Link URI, refer to the GS1 Web URI Structure Standard document.
