Entering Function Characters |
Function characters are characters in a barcode that perform a function rather than print a character.
For example, the FNC1 character can be used in GS1 barcodes to separate multiple data strings, especially when you combine multiple Application Identifiers and their data strings into a single barcode. Sometimes, the specifications for an Application Identifier require that other function characters also be entered into the barcode data string. For more information, refer to GS1 Application Identifiers.
You can enter function characters by entering a combination of a caret (^) and another character anywhere in your data stream. These combinations are as follows.
All Modes
^1 inserts a function 1 (FNC1) character.
^2 inserts a function 2 (FNC2) character.
^3 inserts a function 3 (FNC3) character.
^4 inserts a function 4 (FNC4) character.
^% inserts a modulo 10 (mod 10) check digit.
Manual Mode Only
^A sets the data segment that follows to Code A.
^B sets the data segment that follows to Code B.
^C sets the data segment that follows to Code C.
^S inserts a shift character.
