Making Adjustments for Labels with Gaps

When your label stock has gaps between each row of labels, such as the stock that is used on thermal and some other continuous-form printers, the actual label size that is available to print on is slightly smaller than the size that is computed when the Set Manually option is not selected.

If you want the difference between the page size and the actual label size to be correctly accounted for in the label viewing area on your screen, you must select the Set Manually option and then configure the label dimensions. Because BarTender bases its automatic label height and width settings on all the other settings in the Page Setup dialog, we recommend that you use the following procedure. When you use this procedure, BarTender can give you label size settings that are very close to what you need. After BarTender does most of the work, you make a minor adjustment to one or two of the settings.

ClosedTo specify label height and width for label stock that has gaps

Do not select the Set Manually option until step 5.

  1. On the File menu, click Page Setup to open the Page Setup dialog. Alternatively, click the icon on the main toolbar, or double-click a blank area of the template.

  2. On the Page tab, specify the size and orientation of your page. (If your page size does not appear in the Page Size list, click the User Defined Size setting at the end of the list, and then enter the appropriate values into the Width (of Page) and Height (of Page) options.)

  3. On the Layout tab, in the Layout area, enter the number of rows and columns of labels that are on a single page of stock.

  4. In the Margins area, enter the appropriate margin values.

  5. In the Gap / Pitch area, click to select the Set Manually check box.

  6. BarTender now displays label width and height settings that are very close to what you need. In the Gap / Pitch area, make one or both of the following adjustments:

    • If there are gaps between the columns on your label stock, increase the Horizontal setting to match the width of the gap.

    • If there are gaps between the rows on your label stock, increase the Vertical setting to match the height of the gap.

  7. Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog.
