Set/Change Password
New Password: Enter the new password that you want.
Confirm Password: Confirm the password by reentering it.
Password Hint (Optional): Provide an optional password hint as a memory aid. Users can access this hint when they enter the password.
Protected Actions
Use the Protected Actions section to select which actions on the document you want to protect. Any actions that are protected prompt the user for the document password. If the correct password is not entered, the user is prevented from performing the action. The following actions can be protected:
Open Document:
Save Document: Restricts the ability to save the document. If users need to modify the document in any way, they need this permission to save their changes.
Save Copy of Document: Restricts the ability to save a copy of the document by using the Save As command on the File menu.
Print: Restricts the ability to print the document.
Modify Template Design: Restricts the ability to change the appearance or position of objects on the template. A padlock is shown on the template to indicate that the document is locked, and the user cannot modify any objects without first entering the password.
Modify Protected VB Script(s): Restricts the ability to modify any protected Visual Basic Script (VBScript) in the document. You must enable this option before you can protect a VBScript.
Modify Print Dialog Options: Restricts the ability to change options in the Print dialog. Users can still open the Print dialog.
Modify Page Setup: Restricts the ability to modify settings in the Page Setup dialog.
Modify Database Setup: Restricts the ability to modify settings in the Database Setup dialog.
Modify Layers: Restricts the ability to modify settings in the Layer Properties dialog and to change the previously set locked or unlocked status of individual layers. Users can still modify or delete existing objects on unlocked layers and can add new objects to unlocked layers. They cannot, however, add new layers to the document.
Remember Document Password Until Close
When you click to select this check box, the user is asked to enter the password only one time. After the correct password is entered, the document stays unlocked for as long as it is open, and the user can perform all of the protected actions without having to reenter the password.
If this option is not selected, the user is prompted to enter the password every time they perform any of the protected actions. The Modify Template Design action is an exception to this rule; after the correct password is entered, a user can modify the template for as long as the document is open.
