You can choose from a variety of data sources to obtain the data that you want to print for a data-sourced object. The data source that you choose defines how BarTender determines the data that is printed for the object. For example, the object might print static data that was previously saved as part of the object or data that is imported at print time from a connected database or processed at print time by using Visual Basic Script (VBScript).

• Embedded Data

  Use the Embedded Data data source to manually enter the value that you want for the data source. The data is saved with the object and so is considered to be "embedded."

• Clock

  Use the Clock data source when you want the object to import a date or time from a system or printer clock when the document is printed.

• Database Field

  Use the Database Field data source when you want the object to import data from a database field when the document is printed.

• Global Data Field

  Use the Global Data Field data source when you want the object to print the data that is stored in a previously configured global data field.

• Object Value

  Use the Object Value data source when you want the object to import the data source value from another object on the template when the document is printed.

• Print Job Field

  Use the Print Job Field data source when you want the object to obtain and print information about the print job when the document is printed.

• External File

  Use the External File data source when you want the object to import data, such as binary or text data, from an external file when the document is printed.

• Visual Basic Script

  Use the Visual Basic Script data source when you want the object to print data that is processed at print time by using VBScript.

• Printer Code Template Field

  Use the Printer Code Template Field data source when you want the object to import data from an external print system when the document is printed.

• Table Data Field

  Use a Table Data Field data source when you want a table object to print data from a field of the table object's configured source, such as database records or data that is returned from Visual Basic Script.

• Named Data Source

  Use a Named Data Source data source when you want the object to print the value of a previously configured named data source.
