KIX 4-State Customer Code

The KIX 4-State Customer Code is used for faster automatic processing of bulk mail and other uses. It uses the Royal Mail 4-State Customer Code with the same specifications for the bars, without any start or stop bars.

ClosedThe Character Set

This symbology supports the characters 0 through 9, and upper and lower case A through Z, where lower and upper cased letters represent the same 4-State Character Code.

The bar density for this symbology is 20 to 24 bars per 25.4mm.

ClosedThe Symbology Structure

The bars in each barcode are separated into individual fields that contain symbols, which represent characters. The characters represent sorting rules and other information. Each character is made up of 4 separate bars. Each bar has its own numerical or character value and can be in one of four "states", thus the name of the symbology. The names of the four states and their corresponding values are:

Postal code: This section contains 4 numbers and 2 characters. Its length is fixed.

House/Postal box/Callnumber: This section contains a maximum of 5 numbers. Its length is variable.

Separation sign: This section contains 1 character, "X". Its length is fixed.

Housenumber appendage: This section contains a maximum of 6 characters. Its length is variable.
