Managing a Remote System Database |
Required Edition |
Enterprise Automation |
Additional Software |
SQL Server or SQL Express |
The BarTender System Database is the central data storage location for the BarTender Suite. It is used to log print job information and to reprint items. You can use an existing Microsoft SQL Server to host the BarTender System Database or you can use SQL Express. SQL Express is a free version of SQL Server with a database size limit of 4 GB and a streamlined set of reporting tools.
To connect to a local database, simply complete the BarTender System Database Wizard or point to an existing local BarTender database instance. Alternatively, you can connect to a remote database.
Connecting to a Remote Database
Specific steps are required to connect to a remote database, including defining the SQL Server authentication method and configuring both the client and the server for remote communication.
Maintaining a Remote BarTender System Database
The same as with a local system database, your remote system database requires regular maintenance and administration, including deleting and archiving database logs, periodic database backups, and record purging.
