GS1 Template

The GS1-128 (UCC/EAN-128) barcode used on the shipping container labels required by several large retail stores often requires extra spaces and parentheses in the human readable characters. Some GS1 DataBar (RSS) symbologies also use this special formatting. Depending on the requirements, these extra characters may be positioned in a variety of ways. The default setting for the GS1 Template option ("Parenthesis and Spaces") defines the most common configuration of these extra characters.

The following settings are available:

None: Select this setting when you do not want any additional characters be added to the human readable string. This setting may also be selected when you need to add characters to the human readable string that are not specified in any of the other settings for this option. The additional characters may then be added using a character template.

The position of the extra parenthesis and spaces in the human readable character string can vary somewhat from the samples shown depending on which application identifiers and data fields are in use.
