A 's type refers to the structure of a symbol. Depending on the symbology, the selected type may define and affect the finder pattern, the number of , the accepted character input, and/or the symbol position.
For more information, select a symbology:
The Aztec Code symbology's type affects its finder pattern, data , and data values. The following options are available:
-
Auto: When Auto is selected, BarTender automatically selects either "Compact" or "Full" based on the number of layers and the used.
-
Compact: A Compact Aztec Code has two white and two black finder pattern rings in addition to the center square, one to four data layers, and no reference grid.
-
Full: A Full Aztec Code has three white and three black finder pattern rings in addition to the center square, 4 to 32 data layers, and a reference grid. The reference grid is a set of one-module-wide rows of alternating one-module black and white squares. One row bisects the entire barcode (except the finder pattern area), beginning and ending at the midpoint of the outermost edge of the outermost layer. A second row is identical to, but perpendicular to, the first. In addition, there are rows immediately outside all four sides of every fourth layer (except the outermost layer). Each of these rows, however, continues completely across the barcode rather than wrapping around as the data layers do.
-
Rune: A Rune Aztec Code is a simplified type that supports data values between 0 and 1 byte. If the value is greater than 255, the barcode is replaced with an error symbol.
The Composite symbology's type affects the symbologies that are used and their position. The following options are available:
-
GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional: Consists of a GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional code underneath a CC-A two-dimensional (2-D) code.
-
GS1 DataBar Truncated: Consists of a shortened GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional code underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
-
GS1 DataBar Stacked: Consists of two shortened GS1 DataBar codes underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
-
GS1 DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional: Consists of two GS1 Omnidirectional codes underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
-
GS1 DataBar Limited: Consists of a GS1 DataBar code that is constrained to the length of the CC-A 2-D code that is above it.
-
GS1 DataBar Expanded: Consists of a GS1 DataBar code underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
-
GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked: Consists of one or more GS1 DataBar Expanded codes underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
-
GS1-128 (CC-A/CC-B): Consists of a GS1-128 code underneath either a CC-A or CC-B 2-D code.
-
GS1-128 (CC-C): Consists of a GS1-128 code underneath a CC-C 2-D code.
-
UPC-A: Consists of a UPC-A code underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
-
UPC-E: Consists of a UPC-E code underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
-
EAN/JAN-8: Consists of an EAN/JAN-8 code underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
-
EAN/JAN-13: Consists of an EAN/JAN-13 code underneath a CC-A 2-D code.
The GS1 DataBar symbology's type affects the symbologies that are used and their position. The following options are available:
-
GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional: Specifies a code that is to be read the same regardless of how the scanner is oriented relative to the symbol.
-
GS1 DataBar Truncated: Specifies a code that is encoded identically to any other GS1 DataBar code but is shortened vertically.
-
GS1 DataBar Stacked: Consists of two GS1 DataBar codes stacked on top of one another.
-
GS1 DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional: Consists of two GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional codes stacked on top of one another.
-
GS1 DataBar Limited: Specifies a smaller GS1 DataBar code, similar to the Truncated code.
-
GS1 DataBar Expanded: Specifies a larger GS1 DataBar code.
-
GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked: Consists of two GS1 DataBar Expanded codes stacked on top of one another.
The PZN symbology's type affects its number of characters:
|
The PZN symbol supports an automatic . This adds one Mod 11 check digit to the data that is inputted into the barcode, for a total of seven and eight digits for the PZN7 and PZN8 symbol types, respectively.
|
The Telepen symbology's type affects its accepted character set. The following options are available:
Supported Symbologies
This option is available for the following symbologies:

GS1 Composite
-
GS1 DataBar
-
PZN
