Type

A symbology's type refers to the structure of a barcode symbol. Depending on the symbology, the selected type may define and affect the finder pattern, the number of data layers, the accepted character input, and/or the symbol position.

The PZN symbology's type affects its number of characters:

The PZN symbol supports an automatic check digit. This adds one Mod 11 check digit to the data that is inputted into the barcode, for a total of seven and eight digits for the PZN7 and PZN8 symbol types, respectively.
