The text object in BarTender supports a variety of markup languages. A markup language is a language that uses tags or codes to define the layout or format of the text. Using markup languages in BarTender allows you to contain text formatting in a database or to dynamically format the contents of a text object using VBScript.

BarTender supports the following markup languages:

• Rich Text Format (RTF): RTF standardizes text formatting across many platforms. By using RTF with BarTender, you can apply advanced formatting to the content of a text object, such as changing the color of the text, adding bullets or numbering, indenting paragraphs of text, or inserting symbols.

• HyperText Markup Language (HTML): HTML is a markup language that allows you to format objects using tags. It is predominantly used to format websites but can be used with BarTender to format a text object.BarTender converts the HTML to rich text format (RTF).Because of this conversion, BarTender does not support all applications and features of HTML; it supports only the features available in both HTML and RTF.

• Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML): XAML is another markup language that allows you to create objects, format text, and lay out objects using tags. In BarTender, you can use XAML to modify the appearance of a text object by aligning text in tables, coloring text, or adding images to a text object.

  The Markup Language property page provides customization options for the selected markup language container object, including the dimensions and alignment of the object as well as the markup language to use.

• Using HTML with BarTender

  HTML text objects allow you to format a text object by using HTML tags. When you create the HTML text object, you can directly enter the HTML to use for the formatting, or you can create a data source from which the HTML will be obtained. In either case, you must use BarTender-supported HTML tags.

• Using XAML with BarTender

  XAML text objects allow you to format a text object by using XAML tags. When you create the XAML text object, you can directly enter the XAML to use for the formatting, or you can create a data source from which the XAML will be obtained. In either case, you must use BarTender-supported XAML tags.
