Windows TrueType font technology makes it possible for your thermal printer to print designer typefaces that were once available only on PostScript laser printers. However, on thermal printers, TrueType fonts are typically manipulated and printed as graphics, which can be quite slow to download and print, especially when printing through a serial port.
When enabled, the Substitute Best Matching Printer Font option replaces, at print-time, the selected TrueType font with the built-in printer font that most closely resembles it. Depending on the complexity of the document you are printing, this may significantly increase the speed at which your items will print, especially if the text in question is changing from item to item.
When you first begin designing the template for a document set to print to a thermal printer, any text fields you create will automatically be set to a font that is built into your printer. In this situation, font substitution will not come into play. However, if you start designing a template with a laser printer or a different brand of thermal printer selected, your text will print as TrueType unless you enable font substitution. Accordingly, TrueType font substitution allows you to create a single template and print it at high speed on multiple brands of thermal printers without having to individually set up the a different template for each specific printer.
When one or more objects on a template are set to print using a TrueType font, you will receive a TrueType Font Warning at the start of a print job. For more information, refer to Print Wizard - True Type Font Warning Dialog.
