Split Digits

UPC-A is a twelve digit code. The first digit is the "number system digit," the last digit is the "check digit," and the ten digits in between contain the actual product code. The convention is usually to separate or "split" the first and last digits from the center ten digits. However, some users prefer to have one continuous twelve digit human readable code.

Similarly, the EAN/JAN-13 barcode contains thirteen digits, where the last digit is the "check digit", and the preceding digits reference the product code. When splitting digits, the first digit is always separated from the others; the remaining digits are split in even sets of six digits each.

By default, the Split Digits option on the Human Readable property page is enabled, which tells BarTender to automatically split the first and last digits from the other characters in the barcode. If you want the human readable characters to be printed as one continuous code, deselect the Split Digits option.
