Symbol Type

Like most 2D barcodes, the Data Matrix symbology supports error correction by encoding enough redundant information into the printed symbol to enable the scanner to detect and correct errors. The Symbol Type option enables you to specify the type of error correction to use when creating a Data Matrix barcode. Data Matrix supports fourteen types of error correction.

The default Data Matrix error correction level in BarTender is ECC 200. However, this is a newer standard that is not supported by all printers and scanners. If ECC 200 is not available, ECC 140 will provide the best error correction, although it will print a significantly larger symbol. You may use a lower error correction level to reduce the symbol size.
