Page Template

Using a Page Template, BarTender allows you to add elements to your document such as a header, footer, or watermark, or even create complex designs such as packing slips, invoices, or pallet labels.

Objects on your page template can include information about your print job each time you print your document. For example, you may want to add information to the footer of your printed pages such as "Page 1 of 4, Labels 1-9." You can do this by creating a page template that includes a text object with the Print Job Field data source type.

Although there are no visible margins to the page template, most laser and other "page" printers cannot print within a certain narrow zone around the perimeter of a page. This "unprintable region" varies from printer to printer. For example, Hewlett-Packard compatible laser printers cannot print closer than about 0.200" to the edges of the page. It is important that you understand the capabilities of your printer in this regard when placing your page template elements. For more information, refer to Show Unprintable Region.

To enable a page template

  1. Select Page Setup from the File menu to open the Page Setup dialog. Alternatively, select the icon on the main toolbar or double-click on a blank area of the template.

  2. Click the Page tab, if it is not already selected.

  3. Click the check box for Enable Page Template.

  4. Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog. A Page Template tab is added to the bottom of the design area, alongside your existing template tab(s) and the data entry form.

  5. Click on the Page Template tab to view the page template in the design area, where you can create your template elements. The template page size is equivalent to the actual page size: there are no visible boundaries or margins, and the label outlines are visible.

If Separate designs for front and back of item template is also enabled on the Page tab, two tabs are added to the bottom of the design area, Page Template (Front) and Page Template (Back).

You can also copy a page template from one document into another document to quickly add useful page template elements to additional documents.
