While BarTender arrives fully functional out of the box, you can customize many of BarTender's configuration settings to optimize the use of the application in your production environment. The majority of BarTender’s configuration settings are located in the main menus.
File Menu
The File menu provides access to the basic document creation and preservation controls, as well as document security and printer setup.
Administer Menu
The options found in the Administer menu provide document management options and integration with the rest of the BarTender Suite, allowing the user to configure the links between BarTender and its companion applications. Using the Administer menu, you can configure the following settings:
-
Alert Setup Dialog. Defines the mail system used to distribute the alerting e-mail messages; additionally, you can specify who will receive alert notifications and modify the contents of the e-mail message.
-
BarTender Document Setup Dialog. Allows you to modify the BarTender version of your document, as well as embed file information as part of the document.
-
Folder and File Locations Setup Dialog. Specifies where BarTender will store application specific files. In addition, you can set the default directories where BarTender will save and retrieve documents, scripts, and images.
-
IDoc Definitions Setup Dialog. Allows you to link an IDoc type definition to a parser file, so you do not have to separately link each IDoc to a parser file. It contains a list of the IDoc Type definitions currently available to BarTender.
-
Licensing Setup Dialog. Allows you to configure BarTender's connection to the Seagull License Server, which controls licensing for the Automation and Enterprise Automation editions of BarTender.
-
Log Setup Dialog. Defines how BarTender will record the print job information and errors messages that the application encounters.
-
Message Setup Dialog. Displays the configuration and content of the messages used by BarTender. You can also define how the messages will be displayed, whether they will be logged, and how BarTender will respond to them.
-
Print-Only Password Setup Dialog. Defines a Print-Only Password, which effectively prevents users from modifying objects on the template or using the options in the Administer menu unless they supply the password.
-
Printer Code Template Setup Dialog. Displays a list of all available print systems, and allows you to modify the properties of each.
Tools Menu
In addition to direct links to open BarTender’s companion applications, the Tools menu is the gateway to BarTender’s general configuration settings. Using the Tools menu, you can configure the following settings:
